A referendum on the Grove Park Neighbourhood Plan will be held on Thursday 26 August 2021.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to buliding the Grove Park Neighbourhood Plan. Please vote on the 26th of August 2021 to ensure the Plan gains legal weight in planning decisions.

Look out for the poll cards which will come in the post to your address very soon. Please read the Grove Park Notice of Referendum which sets out all the deadlines you need to know about for voting in different ways.

The full neighbourhood plan subject to referendum, and a map of the affected area, can be found on the council website at: https://lewisham.gov.uk/groveparknpr.

The neighbourhood plan was examined by an external independent examiner and approved for referendum by the Mayor & Cabinet on Wednesday 14 July 2021. The Neighbourhood Plan will be updated with the recommended changes outlined in the examiners report and form part of the Council's plan for making planning decisions.

Who Can Vote?

A person is entitled to vote in the referendum, if on 26 August 2021 the person is on the electoral register for local government elections in the referendum area and the person’s qualifying address is in the referendum area. The referendum area is the Grove Park designated area map which includes the ward of Grove Park and parts of Downham and Whitefoot wards as well.

What I'm I voting for?

The question that will be asked in the referendum is:

Do you want the London Borough of Lewisham to use the Neighbourhood Plan for Grove Park to help it decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area?

Voting YES will mean that the Council will have to take our neighbourhood plan into account when making decisions about development in our neighbourhood.

Our neighbourhood sets out a positive vision and policies to ensure our neighbourhood develops sustainably, protecting our community facilities, our heritage assets, and our wildlife corridors.

Our biggest asset is the continuous green corridor that runs from the South Circular and out into the Kent countryside. Our Neighbourhood Plan sets out a vision to create a District Park - The Railway Children Urban National Park - so that the railway cutting that once inspired children's author Edith Nesbit (who lived on Baring Road) to write The Railway Children, will be protected for future generations to enjoy.

VOTE YES, to ensure we protect our green spaces and wildlife for us all to benefit from and enjoy.

What Happens Once the Neighbourhood Plan Is Approved?

The Neighbourhood Plan will only be approved if we all vote YES. A majority vote will ensure the plan is made and receives legal weight in planning decisions.

If the Plan is approved in the referendum, developers making a planning application in future will need to take the Plan’s policies into account. Lewisham Council will also be required to do so in making decisions on applications. The Plan will therefore play an important role in shaping future development in Grove Park neighbourhood.

How do I Vote?

In the same way as you would in an election, either at a polling station or by post. But please make sure you are registered to vote and meet all the deadlines for voting in different ways, as outlined in the Grove Park Notice of Referendum.
